Ch_AR_acter: Augmented Reality for Character Design

Professors: Jonathan Bravo + Ricardo Vidal Lynch

Through Exploratec UDD, the area that seeks to promote innovation and creativity among Universidad del Desarrollo students, we participated in the Motion Graphics course, taught by Jonathan Bravo, where students were introduced to 3D editing software using Unity and an app developed by Exploratec to see content in Augment Reality.

The final project of the course was for the students to create interactive posters of characters in an environment that could be seen in augmented reality 3D through their smartphones.

The course began with the students learning how to animate on After Effects, and later, how to use the 3D editing software (Unity). They were also taught how to program the app to recognize the image of the poster and display the animated 3D version of the characters. With the knowledge acquired, the students then created their own interactive posters, showcasing their creativity and technical skills.

The final project of the course culminated in an interactive exhibition held at the Faculty of Design at UDD. Visitors could scan the posters with their smartphones and see the characters come to life in augmented reality 3D, providing a unique and engaging experience.

Overall, the Motion Graphics course taught by Jonathan Bravo along with Exploratec UDD was a successful initiative that allowed students to acquire new skills and showcase their creativity. The use of 3D editing software, Unity, and augmented reality technology provided an innovative approach to traditional poster-making, and the exhibition was a testament to the students’ hard work and dedication.
